you, john. the u.s. supreme court is set to hear two distinct cases on gay marriage next week. the bay area is ready with marches and vigils planned. there is also a 12-year-old boy that reached out to chief justice john roberts to let him know about his own family here in the bay area in santa rosa. he and his sister, salina, are adopted. they have two dads. the family is committed to each other. looking to the u.s. supreme court to decide the legality of his parent's union as it will consider california's ban on same-sex marriage tuesday. wednesday, the court considers another case that challenges the federal defensive marriage act. in the la few family, 12-year-old daniel learned that justice roberts has two adopted kids of his own. he said he thought he would never have a family of his own. >> my foster mom always told me i was unadoptable because of my

blossoms getting knocked off the trees. they don't last long. mild conditions. what's happening is that area of low pressure that brought us the rain moves out. high pressure builds in. the two work against each other. we call it a tight pressure grade. the bay area, sandwiched between the two systems. for us, we are going to warm up. we have to deal with these winds. let's talk about that. we stopped the clock at 11:00 a.m. as we head through the first part of the day into mid-morning. that's strong wind all wait from fremont to santa rosa. sfronger as we head through 5:00 p.m. then, tomorrow morning, you get the beautiful weather and we lose the wind. if you want to make the outdoor plans, tomorrow looks spectacular. if you want the warmer weather, the beach, sunday is going to be a little better off for you if you want to take the little ones out there. warm enough to build sand cancels this weekend or you can hit the slopes. 71 degrees in livermore. 69 in fremont. also, a great weekend to get that garden going as we've got rain on the way wednesday into

thursday and next sunday is easter. 5:18. we'll check that drive. good morning, mike. good morning, christina. two significant alerts going on right now. not so much on the reports right now. getting into the city, 101 and 280, showing an increase in volume. north of the city, coming down from the north but in your commute direction, south 101 reports of some boulders have come down off the hill and on to the roadway. right around the aex il ander, saw silly toe ramp. a crash in the backup and a number of other cars on the side. we have our helicopter heading up there. we do see the slowing heading south out of the north bay. as a result of the boulders. the northbound commute directions are fine. a lighter volume of traffic. south 280 around the mclaughlin off ramp still has the significant lert and the investigation. our live bob redell continues with the investigation. we have all but one lane blocked.

ma and rose jacobs-gibson tonight. the event will also celebrate the new women's hall of fame exhibit at the san mateo county history museum. kosher coca-cola will not make it in time for pass over. typically, they make a kosher version every year for pass over. switching out corn syrup for real sugar. jewish people do not eat products made from wheat, corn or many other grains during the eight days of pass over. the company says manufacturing changes in california have made it impossible for them to get the kosher drinks out in time this year but they should be available next year. an update and new details about the power outage down at the super bowl in new orleans. an outside expert confirming the partial outage is the result of a relayed device malfunction, what an initial device revealed. intergy, the company that supplies the energy to the

superdome, says the device was installed specifically and specifically to prevent a power failure at the dome. you will remember the partial blackout. it did delay the game between the raveens and the niners for a total of 34 minutes. it was a crazy thing. >> this time of the year, not just spring fever allergies but march madness that's leading to a lot of calls all over the bay area. a recent study finds the tournament's first two days of play will cost $134 million in lost wages. we are just starting this thing. about 3 million employees will spend 1-3 hours watching for following basketball games instead of working. for us, it's a combination. we are working, telling you what's going on. if you are one of the people who is actually watching the game, ncaa looking out for you. in the upper right-hand corner, there is what they call a boss button. if you click on it, a phoney e-mail program will pop up on your screen. >> the covert mission.

>> this is one of those stories we just love to report. it was just another spring training game for most of the world champion san francisco giants. it turns out to be a dream come true for a lifelong giants fan who happens to be a minor leaguer, ryan cavan. not only called up from the minors but started at second base replacing marco scutaro.

around. it was expected to reopen now. it looks like it will be a little later. the coroner just removed the body of a woman found lying in the number 3 and 4 lanes on southbound 280 at the mclaughlin on ramp in downtown san jose. they thought they would be able to reopen the three right lanes that would be shut down as a result. now, it is going to be longer, because caltranss has been call called out to evaluate whether they need to get called out on the scene. people saw the body. they called 911. this is around 3:15. officers are classifying this as a hit and run. they do not have any witnesses. they do not have any vehicle description. no vehicle parts near where this woman was hit. she is a ped. they do not know why she was up here. the on ramp is nearby. it is quite possible she walked up there and ended up on the freeway for reasons unknown.

smith is live in san francisco right now where a 12-year-old wants the court to hear what he has to say. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, jon. two historic cases on gay marriage are set to be reviewed by the united states supreme court. a number of marches and rallies planned in san francisco. there is also a 12-year-old bay area boy that reached out to the chief justice to give him something else to consider, his own family and what they have in common. they are the la fews, 12-year-old daniel and his sister, salina were adopted. they have two dads. his foster mom told him because of his medical condition, he probably wouldn't be adopted. then, his two dads changed everything. now, the u.s. supreme court will decide the legality of their union when california's prop 8 same-sex marriage ban and the federal defensive marriage act are reviewed tuesday and wednesday. daniel learned the chief justice

"today in the bay." audit report findings against two oakland city council members could result in a misdemeanor and cost them their seats. the report claims council president, larry reed and deswick brooks interfered with a $2 million construction contract. they reportedly directed staff to push a $2 million demolition contract at the oakland army base towards turner group construction. the report claims brooks violated the city charter 12 times, reed, one time and another by one of his staff members. >> this is clearly coercing and influencing the contracting process. >> i should have just voted on it. now, i'm bearing the brunt of the city auditor's report. >> the city attorney forwarded the audit to the alameda county district attorney's office. no charges have been filed with

highest honor. president shimon peres saying the bonds have reached an unprecedented level between the two countries. this morning, president obama participating in three wreath layings before heading to bethlehem. a dust storm grounded his chopper. he ended up going by motorcade. president obama spending part of his day today in bethlehem, part with king abdullah in jordan. in jordan, he is likely to talk about the war in syria and how that war, that spillover, of 350,000 refugees has affected and drained resources in jordan. jon? >> tracie potts in capitol hill. thank you for the update. three people are dead after shooting at a marine base in virginia. a spokesman said a marine shot and killed another reason late last night. that shooting led to a standoff between authorities and the suspect that hid in a barracks at the base. authorities went inside the barracks early this morning and found the suspect and another victim dead. a bay spokesperson said the

second victim was also a marine. it is unclear what prompted the shooting. >> south korea is apologizing this morning saying it mistakenly accused china as the origin of a recent cyber attack. the attack that paralyzed tens of thousands of computers at six companies came from a chinese company. it belongs to a computer at one of the south korean companies that was hit. they still think it originated from abroad. they don't know where. some experts expect that. devastating news for tens of thousands of students and parents in chicago. more than 50 public schools in the city will be shut down at the end of this school year. the desperate move by public school officials in response to $1 billion in a budget short fall. some 300 schools were initially on that list of possible closures. parents, teachers and people in that community vows to fight. many saying they will take part

south 280 is the issue. bob redell still on the scene. we thought we were going to have lanes cleared. they are still obviously not. we had two lanes. half your freeway opens past the scene of a deadly hit an run. bob continues to follow this investigation. we are held up because caltrans has to evaluate whether we can open this lane or not. meanwhile, the bay bridge. the bay bridge is a pretty typical for this friday. a light backup for these cash lanes. it is friday light. >> 5:49. the faa will make an announcement on which control towerers will clothes. the head of the organization has said, there were so many responses so the plan closures. it took longer than expected to review the submissions of each airport. they say they have to close some control towers because of federal sequester cuts.

questions, one, what was this woman doing up here on southbound 280 near the mclaughlin on ramp and who was it that hit and killed her tichlts a hit and run u can see that the two right lanes of the freeway are still shut down. we are looking in the southbound direction. one of the lanes will reopen within the past 15 minutes. you have two lanes open to the left which traffic is going through smoothly. two lanes shut down in the right. the coroner has removed her body. what we are waiting on right now is for caltrans to arrive. they need to evaluate whether they need to clean up the area where her body laid around 3 dlon 15 this morning. drivers saw her body. they called on 911. paramedics came on the scene and pronounced her dead on arrival. some of the drivers who did stop, did speak to chp. they had no information according to chp, as far as a de
